NBC

NBC (National Broadcasting Company) is an American television network headquartered in the G & E Building at Rockefeller Center in New York City, with additional main offices in Burbank, California, and Chicago. The broadcaster is often referred to as the "peacock" because of its stylized logo, originally created for color TV shows.

Formed in 1926 by the Radio Corporation of America (RCA), NBC became the first major broadcast network in the United States. In 1986, General Electric bought NBC for $ 6.4 billion from RCA. General Electric owned RCA and NBC until 1930, when it was forced to sell them as a result of antitrust charges. The network is now part of the NBC Universal media company, a division of General Electric, which acquired the remaining 20% stake in NBC Universal from Vivendi on December 1, 2009 . On December 3, 2009, Comcast announced the purchase of a 51 % stake in NBC Universal. NBC is available in approximately 112 million households — 98.6 % of which have televisions. NBC has 10 owned-and-operated stations and approximately 200 affiliates in the United States.
